Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Grosses Gewächs dry

The Bernkasteler Lay vineyard is one of the great Riesling sites of the Middle Moselle – steep, slate-dominated, with deep soils that impart minerality directly to the wine. The Geheimrat J. Wegeler winery, one of the most traditional estates in the Moselle, Rheingau, and Palatinate regions, produces this vineyard as a Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru): dry, meeting the highest quality standard of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates).

In the glass, the wine displays aromas of ripe pear and grapefruit, along with a distinct slate minerality—that salty, stony backbone that only genuine Mosel slate imparts. There's also a hint of almond and fresh lime zest. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with a present yet silky acidity, subtly spicy with a slightly peppery finish. Balanced, long, and without heaviness.

Serving suggestion: Best served at 10–12 °C. Pairs well with grilled pike-perch fillet, scallops with lemon butter, or mature goat cheese. Drinking window until approximately 2028 — those who are patient will be rewarded with greater depth.
