Baron de Ley Reserva Rioja
The Baron de Ley Reserva pleases with its impressive, deep cherry red, which appears almost untouched by the years of aging. Probably due to its higher concentration, the bouquet of this wine needs some time to open up. Then it reveals great aromatic diversity with smoke and graphite notes against a background of red fruits and increasing complexity. On the palate, the wine is indeed serious, fine, mineral, and long, full-bodied with a lingering fruit note in the finish. Truly the expression of a great vintage! In new American oak barriques and at least another 24 months in the bottle until it reaches its perfect drinking maturity. This wine has not been subjected to any filtration or stabilization, which means natural sediment may be present in the bottle.

Great value for money
The 2017 is a great offer for this price. Value for money is top. Anyone who tries the 2018 will wish for the previous vintage!

How does the Baron de Ley Reserva 2022 taste?
Dry Tempranillo with red fruits, smoke and graphite notes, mineral body, and a long finish. It needs some air in the glass to fully unfold — best to decant 20–30 minutes before drinking.
What does the wine pair best with?
Classically with lamb and game, but also with a good steak or veal roast. If you prefer something lighter: it also stands up well to hearty tapas with jamón or aged Manchego.
At what temperature should I serve it?
Best at 16–18 °C — so slightly cooler than room temperature. In summer, it is worth putting the bottle in the fridge for 15 minutes before you pour.
The wine is not filtered — what does that mean for me?
Natural sediment or a light deposit are possible and not a quality defect. If you want to avoid this, stand the bottle upright for a few hours and pour slowly or decant carefully.
How long can I store the wine?
As a Reserva with barrique aging and at least 24 months of bottle aging, it is ready to drink now, but still has potential for a few more years — provided you store it cool, dark, and lying down.
The Bodega
Barón de Ley was founded in 1985 with a clear ambition: to plant a bodega in the DOCa Rioja modeled after the great Médoc châteaux — consistently focused on its own grapes and long aging. The house is based in Mendavia, in the Navarrese part of the Rioja, in a restored 16th-century Benedictine monastery.
Only Reserva and Gran Reserva wines are produced here — no Jóvenes, no Crianza, only wines that have been given time. The name says it all: "de ley" means something like genuine and righteous in Spanish — and that is exactly the standard in every bottle.
