Baron de Ley Reserva Rioja
The Baron de Ley Reserva impresses with its striking, deep cherry-red color, virtually untouched by years of aging. Likely due to its higher concentration, the bouquet of this wine requires some time to open up. It then reveals a great aromatic diversity with notes of smoke and graphite against a backdrop of red fruit and increasing complexity. On the palate, the wine is indeed serious, refined, mineral, and long, full-bodied with a lingering fruit note on the finish. Truly the expression of a great vintage! Aged in new American oak barriques and then for at least another 24 months in the bottle to reach its full drinking maturity. This wine has not undergone filtration or stabilization, which may result in some natural sediment in the bottle. Baron de Ley offers compelling quality at a compelling price! Decanter 94 points for the 2020 vintage

Barón de Ley was founded in 1985 with a clear ambition: to establish a bodega in the DOCa Rioja modeled after the great Médoc châteaux—consistently focused on its own grapes and extended aging. The winery is located in Mendavia, in the Navarrese part of Rioja, in a restored 16th-century Benedictine monastery. Here, only Reserva and Gran Reserva wines are produced—no Jóvenes, no Crianzas, only wines that have been given time. The name says it all: "de ley" means something like "genuine" and "righteous" in Spanish—and that is precisely the standard reflected in every bottle.
