Baron de Ley Vina Imas Gran Reserva

There are vineyards that are simply special. Viña Imas is one of them: the heartbeat of the Barón de Ley winery, deeply rooted in the Rioja Alta. Those who cultivate grapes here wait. Those who wait are rewarded.

The Viña Imas Gran Reserva is the result of patience and precision – it matures for at least two years in barriques before resting for another five years in the bottle. What then ends up in the glass has nothing rushed about it.

The nose opens with cranberry and red cherry , carried by a gentle hint of leather and a subtle note of vanilla – the typical, unmistakable aromatic profile of a mature Rioja. On the palate, it is soft and inviting: ripe fruit meets finely polished tannins, all culminating in a long, warm finish that lingers for a while.

  • Grape variety: Tempranillo (vinification in the classic Rioja style)
  • Aging: 2 years in barriques, 5 years bottle aging
  • Character: Elegant, balanced, profound

This wine needs no grand spectacle – it convinces with its quietude and substance. Whether paired with rack of lamb, aged Manchego cheese, or simply as the companion of a long evening: the Viña Imas Gran Reserva is Spanish wine culture in its most concentrated form .

And those who let him sleep in the cellar for a few more years? Will be rewarded even more.

Baron de Ley

Barón de Ley was founded in 1985 with a clear ambition: to establish a bodega in the DOCa Rioja modeled after the great Médoc châteaux—consistently focused on its own grapes and extended aging. The winery is located in Mendavia, in the Navarrese part of Rioja, in a restored 16th-century Benedictine monastery. Here, only Reserva and Gran Reserva wines are produced—no Jóvenes, no Crianzas, only wines that have been given time. The name says it all: "de ley" means something like "genuine" and "righteous" in Spanish—and that is precisely the standard reflected in every bottle.
