Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG - Casalpietra 0.75L

An Amarone that showcases the classic strength of Valpantena: concentrated, complex, with the unmistakable depth that the Appassimento method brings to the bottle.

The Ottella winery is located in Valpolicella Valpantena, one of the higher-altitude sub-regions, at around 400 meters. The marly, calcareous soils derived from dolomite rock give the Corvina Veronese a mineral character that permeates the entire wine. The 2018 vintage yielded ripe, healthy grapes in Veneto—an excellent starting point for the elaborate drying process that gives the Amarone its distinctive character.

In the glass, Casalpietra displays dark berry fruit—blackberry, prune—with hints of cocoa, tobacco, and dried herbs. The body is full, the tannins present but not harsh. The finish is long and warm. Serving temperature: 17–18 °C. Drinking window: 2025–2032; it develops particularly well with aeration.

Classic pairings: braised beef cheeks, venison ragu on pappardelle, or mature pecorino. Those drinking it neat should allow it an hour to decant.
