Glaetzer Wines –
Barossa Shiraz from ancient vines in Ebenezer
Glaetzer Wines has its roots in 1888 – back then, the family laid the foundation for what is today one of the most characterful wineries in the Barossa Valley. Ben Glaetzer continues his father Colin's legacy without copying it: he has given the operation his own style that combines power and precision.
The vines are located in Ebenezer, a small, little-known sub-region in the northern Barossa. Here, the soils are deeper, the temperatures somewhat cooler than in the valley – and the vines are in some cases over a hundred years old. These old roots dig deep into the ground and extract a concentration that young plantings simply lack. In the glass, this manifests as juicy plum pit, dark chocolate, and a finish that lingers.
The range extends from the accessible Wallace – a Shiraz-Grenache that brings joy early on – to the Amon-Ra, a Shiraz from pure Ebenezer sites that brings aging potential over many years. Both stand for the same standard: no compromise on the raw material, no compromise on the aging.
