About Bodegas Añadas

Two Aragonese families, one Denominación, a new beginning

On February 22, 2000, the Aragonese families Díaz and Lázaro jointly founded Bodegas Añadas — a project that wanted to rethink the D.O. Cariñena: contemporary, quality-oriented, and with a clear commitment to its origin. The Denominación itself is one of the oldest in Spain; its origin dates back to 1932. The founders gave the wines the name Care — the Roman word for the city of Cariñena, which later evolved into Caraellana, "La Querida Llanura" (the beloved plain). In English, the word simply resonates with care and respect: exactly what both families have invested in the cellar and vineyard from the beginning. They released their first wine in September 2003 — a Garnacha from old vines of the Finca Bancales, which still belongs to the core of the range today.

150 hectares on a stony high plateau — Cierzo included

The winery cultivates 150 hectares on four sites (Bancales, Cadillos, Peñanegra, Zagalcerro) at altitudes between 600 and 800 meters above sea level. The climate is continental-Mediterranean: hot, dry summers, cold winters, less than 300 liters of precipitation per year — and the Cierzo, a dry northwest wind that shortens the ripening time and minimizes mold infestation. The temperature fluctuations between day and night are considerable, which promotes aroma development and secures the acidity structure. The soils consist mainly of quartzite and clay with a high carbonate content — barren, poor in organic material, ideal for deep-rooting old vines. In the cellar, the team relies on careful hand-picking, gentle processing in conical stainless steel tanks and basket presses, and — depending on the wine — aging in used French oak barrels to prioritize fruit over wood. All Care wines have been vegan-produced since the 2017 and 2018 vintages.

The winery also pursues a commitment that goes beyond the cellar: with the Care Solidarity Rosé, Bodegas Añadas supports the AMAC-GEMA association, which accompanies women with breast and genital cancer.

Garnacha as a guideline — from Nouveau wine style to Reserva from ancient wood

Garnacha and Cariñena (Mazuelo) are the defining grape varieties of the house — best adapted to the terroir, the basis of the Nativa line and the heart of the Finca Bancales Reserva, which comes from over 80-year-old vines. Syrah, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay complement the range. The stylistic arc is deliberately broad: from fresh, early-drinking wines like the Care Tinto Nouveau to structured Reservas with aging potential. White Garnacha Blanca and Chardonnay show how well the high altitude preserves freshness in warm vintages. All wines are united by a credo that is in their name: origin before formula, care before effect.

What our customers say

We have known this wine for many years - for us one of the most pleasant rosé wines - balanced and very fruity - fits perfectly with steak and fish but also enjoyed solo very well.

Noble drop! I drank it for the first time last year. Full-bodied and dry. Simply a fantastic red wine! In addition, the shipping was lightning fast. Not 48h after my order, the postman rang at our door with the package! TOP!

Bodegas Añadas –
High-altitude grape varieties from the heart of Aragon

Bodegas Añadas was founded in 1932 in northeastern Spain's Cariñena, one of the oldest Denominaciones de Origen in Aragon. The vineyards are located at altitudes between 500 and 900 meters above sea level – unusually high for these latitudes and decisive for the character of the wines: The Mediterranean climate brings hot days, the altitude ensures nights that are up to 10 °C cooler. These temperature fluctuations slow down ripening, preserve acidity, and give the grapes time to develop aromatic depth.

The 16,000 hectares of vineyards are spread over four individual sites – Bancales, Cadillos, Peñanegra, and Zagalcerro – each with its own soil character. Tempranillo, Garnacha, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown for the red wines, as well as Chardonnay for the white wines. Since the 2017 and 2018 vintages, all wines of the CARE line have been consistently produced vegan – without animal fining agents.

What distinguishes Bodegas Añadas is the combination of traditional roots and a clear line in the cellar: The wines reflect the rugged highlands of Aragon – structured, with ripe fruit and a finish that hints at the cool nights of the high altitudes.
