Scheurebe
Scheurebe is capable of many things — but rarely as precisely as here. Wagner-Stempel from Siefersheim in Rheinhessen demonstrates with this wine what the grape variety is truly capable of: no sweetness, no overpowering character, but rather coolness, structure, and tension.
The Daniel Wagner winery is located in northern Rheinhessen, on calcareous porphyry weathered soil – a foundation that produces wines with firm minerality and a clear structure. Scheurebe is not a marginal note here, but a seriously regarded variety with its own distinct character.
In the glass, the wine displays a cool, clear nose: fresh grapefruit, green herbs, and a hint of citrus peel. On the palate, it is delicately juicy and straightforward—not a heavy body, but an athletic wine with a firm structure. The grapefruit notes linger through to the long finish, where they mingle with a subtle herbal spice. A slight astringency provides both a pleasant bite and easy drinkability.
