Spier Signature Chardonnay

Spier Signature Chardonnay
A Chardonnay from South Africa that shows what the Stellenbosch wine region is capable of: fruity and fresh, with a subtle oak frame — not an over-the-top buttery vanilla feast, but an approachable everyday wine with substance.
Spier is one of South Africa's oldest wineries, founded in Stellenbosch in 1692. Their Signature line represents uncomplicated, single-varietal wines from their own vineyards and those of partner estates. Eighty percent of the Chardonnay is fermented in stainless steel tanks, while 20 percent matures in French oak barrels—this allows the fruit to remain prominent without the oak dominating. Two months of lees contact add a touch of texture to the wine.
In the glass, a pale straw yellow. On the nose, grapefruit, ripe lime, and a hint of pineapple, underpinned by a delicate vanilla note from the barrel aging. On the palate, lively acidity, medium body, and a smooth finish. John Platter awarded 3.5 stars to the 2019 vintage.
Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Pairs well with grilled salmon, fresh goat cheese, or a chicken salad with mango. Also a great choice as a simple aperitif on the patio.
