Salentein Barrel Selection Merlot
A Merlot from the high Andes – strongly structured, but with the velvety smoothness that the grape variety promises.
Bodega Salentein is located in the Uco Valley, one of Mendoza's highest-altitude wine-growing regions, at over 1,000 meters. The extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night there—up to a 20°C difference—intense the aromas and preserve the acidity. The winery is among Argentina's most renowned and vinifies its Barrel Selection line using small oak barrels for aging.
In the glass, it displays a dark ruby red color. The nose opens with plum, black cherry, and an undertone of dark chocolate. Vanilla and a hint of cedar from barrel aging round out the profile. On the palate, soft tannins, medium body, and a lingering finish with a slightly spicy note.
Serving suggestion: Serve at 16–18 °C. Pairs well with braised beef, lamb chops with rosemary jus, or mature cheddar. Drinking window: now until 2027.
