Salentein Barrel Selection Malbec

Deep and full-bodied: The Barrel Selection Malbec from Salentein shows what the highlands of Mendoza can get out of this grape variety — dense fruit, velvety texture, long finish.

Bodegas Salenstein is situated at an altitude of over 1,000 meters in the Uco Valley, one of Argentina's coldest and driest wine-growing regions. The extreme day-night temperature fluctuations result in slow ripening, high fruit concentration, and natural acidity. The Barrel Selection matures for several months in oak barrels—hence the characteristic fusion of fruit and wood.

In the glass: Aromas of plum, black cherry, and blackberry, underpinned by vanilla, dark chocolate, and a hint of cedar. On the palate, full-bodied with soft, well-integrated tannins and a lingering, slightly spicy finish. No overpowering oak influence—fruit and barrel aging maintain a perfect balance.

Serving suggestion: Best served at 17–18 °C. Pairs well with pan-seared beef fillet, grilled lamb chop with herbs, or a spicy chimichurri steak. Also enjoyable with hard cheeses like Manchego. Ready to drink now, but will easily keep until 2028.

Gladly always again a nice Malbec

A nice Malbec at a reasonable price. We find the Cabernet Sauvignon from Salentein better, but sometimes it has to be a Malbec !

Salentein

Bodegas Salentein – founded in 1996 by Mijndert Pon. The winery in the Valle de Uco, about 100 kilometers south of Mendoza, is considered a pioneer of this wine region. Approx. 800 hectares of own vineyards at altitudes between 1,050 and 1,700 meters, directly at the foot of the Andes. Top quality is created here with meticulousness and great effort. Chief winemaker José Galante, one of Argentina's most influential oenologists, knows the Valle de Uco like hardly any other. A winery that impresses – in every respect.
