Ruffino Modus Primo Toscana IGT

The Modus Primo is Ruffino's answer to the Super Tuscan question: not a classic Chianti, but a free cuvée of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot – vinified according to international standards, rooted in Tuscany.

Ruffino is one of the oldest wine houses in the region, founded in 1877 in Pontassieve. Today, the winery manages several sites around Florence and Siena. The Modus Primo stands for the modern wing of the house: aging in barriques brings melt and structure without masking the Tuscan origin.

In the glass, a deep ruby red appears. The nose opens with black plum, blackberry, and a hint of dried violets, plus cinnamon and clove from the wood aging. On the palate, soft, ripe tannins, a balsamic note in the middle, and a lingering finish with dark fruit and subtle spice.

Serving suggestion: Serve at 17–18 °C. Pairs with ribeye steak, leg of lamb with rosemary, pasta al ragù, or aged Pecorino. Accessible now, even better with some air in the decanter.
