Ruffino Modus Primo Toscana IGT

Modus Primo is Rufino's answer to the Super Tuscan question: not a classic Chianti, but a free blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot – vinified to international standards, rooted in Tuscany.

Ruffino is one of the oldest wineries in the region, founded in 1877 in Pontassieve. Today, the winery cultivates several vineyards around Florence and Siena. The Modus Primo represents the modern wing of the business: aging in barriques adds richness and structure without masking its Tuscan heritage.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The nose opens with aromas of black plum, blackberry, and a hint of dried violet, along with cinnamon and clove from the oak aging. On the palate, soft, ripe tannins, a balsamic note in the mid-palate, and a lingering finish with dark fruit and subtle spice.

Serving suggestion: Serve at 17–18 °C. Pairs well with ribeye steak, leg of lamb with rosemary, pasta al ragù, or mature pecorino cheese. Drinking window 2024–2028 – approachable now, but even better with a little aeration in the decanter.
