Rizado

Monastrell from the edge of the Spanish Meseta — the Rizado from Bodegas Trenza shows what old vines can achieve under the Extremadura sun: dense fruit, structure, and a long, spicy finish.

Behind Trenza are the Danish brothers David and Jonas Tofterup, who have made a name for themselves in the Región de Murcia — an area where Monastrell has thrived for centuries on barren, dry soils. Old vines, low yields, sustainable cultivation: the result is a wine with more substance than many representatives of this grape variety.

Deep ruby red in the glass with a violet rim. On the nose, ripe blackberry and plum, behind that dark chocolate and a hint of lavender. Present on the palate, but not massive — the tannins are ripe and round, the acidity keeps the fruit in balance. The finish brings pepper and clove, remaining pleasantly long.

Serving recommendation: Serve the Rizado at 16–18 °C. It pairs well with braised lamb shoulder, grilled chorizo, or a strong Manchego.
