Rizado
Monastrell from the edge of the Spanish Meseta — the Rizado from Bodegas Trenza shows what old vines can achieve under the Extremadura sun: dense fruit, structure and a long, spicy finish.
Behind Trenza are the Danish brothers David and Jonas Tofterup, who have established themselves in the Región de Murcia — an area where Monastrell has thrived for centuries on barren, dry soils. Old vines, low yields, sustainable cultivation: the result is a wine with more substance than many other examples of this grape variety.
In the glass, a deep ruby red with a violet rim. The nose offers ripe blackberry and plum, followed by dark chocolate and a hint of lavender. On the palate, it is present but not heavy—the tannins are ripe and rounded, and the acidity keeps the fruit in balance. The finish brings pepper and clove, lingering pleasantly.
Serving suggestion: Serve Rizado at 16–18 °C. It pairs well with braised lamb shoulder, grilled chorizo, or a robust Manchego cheese. Best enjoyed by 2027.
