The RWT Shiraz is Penfolds' answer to the question of what happens when you consistently age Barossa Shiraz in French oak – instead of the American wood that characterizes most Australian red wines of this size.

Penfolds has been one of Australia's most influential wineries since 1844. The RWT – Red Winemaking Trial – originated as an experiment in 1997 and is now a distinct style within the estate: Barossa Shiraz, aged in French oak barrels, with the aim of maintaining a balance between fruit and structure rather than emphasizing the oak.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby ​​red color. The nose offers aromas of blackberry, dark plum, and violet, with underlying notes of cedar and a hint of black pepper – the warmth and depth of the Barossa terroir are clearly evident. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with velvety tannins and ripe, well-integrated acidity. The finish is long and spicy, with a mocha note from the barrel aging.

Serving suggestion: Serve at 17–18 °C. Pairs well with braised lamb shoulder, brisket, or strong hard cheese. The magnum bottle matures more slowly than the standard bottle – allow ample time for drinking.
