Michter's US*1 Small Batch American Whiskey is an unblended, corn-based American whiskey — sweet, smooth and significantly more characterful than a typical bourbon.

Michter's is one of the oldest whiskey traditions in the USA, with roots in Pennsylvania. Their small-batch philosophy means no mass bottling, but rather a careful selection of individual casks. The US*1 matures for five to eight years in used whiskey barrels—this tames the sweetness and gives the spirit time to develop depth without being dominated by fresh oak.

In the glass, it presents itself as full-bodied: deep vanilla, butterscotch, and caramel form the foundation. These are complemented by dried fruits—dates, a hint of raisin—and a fruity, gently fading finish. The texture is smooth, almost creamy, with a sweetness reminiscent of light rum, without its heaviness.

Recommendation: Neat at room temperature or with a single large ice cube to slowly release the sweetness. As a cocktail base, the US*1 is excellent for an Old Fashioned or Whiskey Sour — its smooth texture supports bitters and citrus without overpowering them.
