Keyneton Euphonium

Anyone who knows the Eden Valley and Barossa Valley knows: this is where Australian red wine grows that takes its time. The Keyneton Euphonium from Henschke is the prime example of this — a powerful yet structured blend that combines depth with elegance.

Henschke is one of Australia's oldest family wineries, based in Keyneton since 1868. The vines for the Euphonium grow in both valleys and benefit from the interplay of warm days and cool nights — which explains the tension between fruit richness and fresh acidity. Five generations of craftsmanship go into every vintage.

In the glass, it shows deep purple-red with ruby-red reflections. On the nose, raspberry, black plum, and blackberry combine with violets and almond blossom — plus bay leaf, black pepper, and dried herbs. On the palate, dark forest fruits, sage, and Dutch cocoa are added, held by fine-grained tannins and a refreshing acidity. The finish is long and spicy.

Pairs well with braised lamb rack with rosemary, beef shank, or a ripe cheddar. Temperature: 17–18 °C.
