The Wheelwright
Henschke is one of Australia's most renowned wineries — and The Wheelwright demonstrates why the family has been considered a benchmark in the Eden Valley for generations. The 2021 vintage is a Shiraz of depth and precision, combining power and elegance.
The Henschke winery has been family-run since 1868, now in its fifth generation, and is currently managed by Stephen and Prue Henschke. Their vineyards in Eden Valley and Keyneton lie at an altitude of over 400 meters – the cooler climate ensures slow ripening and a delicate aromatic structure.
In the glass, a dark carmine red with violet reflections. The nose offers blackberry, blueberry, and violet, along with black pepper, anise, and a hint of cedar. On the palate, it is juicy and powerful, with satsuma plum and mulberry, lively herbal spice, and fresh acidity. The tannins are fine-grained and silky, the finish long, cool, and mineral.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Drinking window: 2025–2033.
Goes well with leg of lamb with rosemary, grilled beef steak or aged cheddar.
