Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Cabinet

Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Cabinet
A cabinet of curiosities that demonstrates why the Ruwer forms a separate category for Riesling connoisseurs: light-footed, yet surprisingly dense – with that subtle tension between sweetness and acidity that cannot be engineered.
The Karthäuserhof estate lies in the Eitelbach valley, a side valley of the Ruwer River, and is one of the oldest wineries on the Moselle. The Karthäuserhof vineyard is a single, contiguous large vineyard site – the name on the label dates back to a time when fanciful names weren't necessary. Blue slate characterizes the soil, and the cooler microclimate of the Ruwer River ensures slow ripening and natural freshness.
On the nose, the wine opens with elderflower, jasmine tea, and ripe mirabelle plum . On the palate, honey blossoms and a hint of white almond follow, underpinned by a slatey, salty note reminiscent of lime peel with sea salt. The residual sugar remains subtle, balancing the lively acidity without overpowering it. The finish displays a slight smokiness and lingers longer than the wine's weight would suggest.
