Pinot Gris

Rheinhessen is Germany's largest wine region – and Weingut Weedenborn is one of the operations that prove that size and quality are not a contradiction. The Pinot Gris from Weedenborn shows what loamy loess soils and careful aging can get out of this grape variety.

On the nose, it opens with ripe aromas of yellow apple and pear, complemented by a fine brioche tone that indicates gentle aging with contact to the lees. Added to this is a subtle spice – a hint of white pepper and some quince in the background. The acidity is deliberately restrained but by no means absent: it keeps the wine lively and prevents the melt from tipping into heaviness.

On the palate, the Pinot Gris shows a pleasant fullness without heaviness – full-bodied, with a soft texture and a long, dry finish that picks up the spice again. A white wine for those who appreciate substance but do not like wood notes.
