Pinot Gris

Rheinhessen is Germany's largest wine region – and Weingut Weedenborn is one of the wineries that proves size and quality are not mutually exclusive. Their Pinot Gris demonstrates what loamy loess soils and meticulous winemaking can achieve with this grape variety.

On the nose, it opens with ripe aromas of yellow apple and pear, complemented by a delicate brioche note, suggesting gentle aging with lees contact. A subtle spiciness joins in – a hint of white pepper and a touch of quince in the background. The acidity is deliberately restrained, but by no means absent: it keeps the wine vibrant and prevents its smooth texture from becoming heavy.

On the palate, the Pinot Gris displays a pleasant richness without heaviness – full-bodied, with a soft texture and a long, dry finish that echoes the spiciness. A white wine for those who appreciate substance but dislike oak notes.

• Creamy pasta with mushrooms or truffle oil
• Pan-fried salmon or sea bass with lemon butter
• Mild goat cheese, Brie de Meaux or young Comté
