Felsina Colonia Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The Colonia comes from a single vineyard on the Fèlsina estate near Castelnuovo Berardenga — the southernmost tip of Chianti Classico. There, where the soils become sandy and stony and the sun burns longer, Sangiovese grapes ripen to a density that can only be understood in the Gran Selezione format after a long aging period in the cellar.

Fèlsina has been one of the leading wineries in Tuscany since the 1980s. It's not a showy operation, but rather a focus on consistent work in the vineyard: low yields, selective hand-harvesting, and extended maceration. The Colonia matures in French oak barrels before resting for several more months in the bottle—the vintage determines when it is released.

In the glass, it shines a deep ruby red. The nose reveals blackberry and plum, along with rosemary, bay leaf, and a hint of iron ore. On the palate, a firm yet silky tannin structure supports the fruit, while the acidity keeps everything in balance. The finish is long and spicy, with a mineral aftertaste.

Drinking window: 2025–2033. Decant at least one hour before drinking.
Temperature: 17–18 °C.
Dishes: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, braised wild boar loin, Pecorino Stagionato or pasta with truffle ragù.
