Felsina Colonia Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

Felsina Colonia Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
The Colonia comes from a single vineyard on the Fèlsina estate near Castelnuovo Berardenga — the southernmost tip of Chianti Classico. There, where the soils become sandy and stony and the sun burns longer, Sangiovese grapes ripen to a density that one only understands in the Gran Selezione format after a long time in the cellar.
Fèlsina has been one of the defining addresses in Tuscany since the 1980s. Not a show operation, but consistent work in the vineyard: low yields, selective hand-picking, long maceration. The Colonia matures in French barriques before resting for further months in the bottle — the vintage decides when it is released.
In the glass, it glows in deep ruby red. The nose shows blackberry and plum, plus rosemary, bay leaf, and a hint of ironstone. On the palate, a firm but already silkier tannin structure carries the fruit profile, the acidity keeps everything in balance. The finish is long, spicy, with a mineral aftertaste.
2025–2033. Decant at least one hour before drinking.
Temperature: 17–18 °C.
Food: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, braised wild boar loin, Pecorino Stagionato, or pasta with truffle ragù.
