Enate Merlot-Merlot DO

The Enate Merlot-Merlot brings French elegance to the foothills of the Spanish Pyrenees. A powerful, terroir-driven red wine that bears the signature of a Bordeaux-trained oenologist.

The Enate winery is located in the DO Somontano – literally “under the mountain.” Here, sheltered by the Pyrenees, the vines grow organically on the estate's own land. Winemaker Jesús Artajona, who gained experience at Château Margaux, among other places, crafts wines with a clear, French-inspired style. The winery also makes a visual statement: each label features the work of a contemporary Spanish artist.

In the glass, this single-varietal Merlot unfolds a dense aroma of ripe Morello cherries and plums. The dark fruit is accompanied by spicy eucalyptus, cloves, delicate cocoa notes, and a hint of dried apricot. On the palate, it is full-bodied and fleshy. The tannins are soft and finely structured, supported by a balanced acidity. The long finish leaves nuances of saddle leather and dark ink.

Serve this complex Spanish wine at 16 to 18 °C . It is an excellent accompaniment to braised leg of lamb, hearty beef dishes with dark sauce, or a mature Manchego cheese.

Enate

Founded in 1991 in Somontano, Aragon, Bodega Enate has since become one of the most influential names in the Spanish wine scene, now cultivating 500 hectares of vineyards at the foot of the Pyrenees. What sets Enate apart from other bodegas is its deeply ingrained three-pronged identity: quality winemaking, unwavering sustainability, and a profound connection to contemporary art, which is reflected even in the wine labels. Vineyards at an altitude of around 600 meters, sandy loam soils, and a daily temperature range of up to 15°C ensure slow-ripening grapes with pronounced varietal character. The result is wines that prioritize balance and elegance – not a flashy display, but precise craftsmanship from the heart of Aragon.
