"Calmo" red wine cuvée QbA dry
The “Calmo” is a characterful red wine cuvée from Baden – dense, spicy, with a depth that one does not necessarily expect from an estate wine.
Martin Waßmer is one of the most influential winemakers in the Markgräflerland region. On the loamy-calcareous soils north of Bad Krozingen, he produces wines that are unusually structured and age-worthy for Baden wines. The "Calmo" encapsulates what this region is known for: warmth, substance, and yet freshness.
On the nose, it displays plenty of spice, cigar box, and cold smoke – alongside red fruit: cassis, preserved cherries, and a hint of black pepper. On the palate, it is powerful and compact, full-bodied with noticeable warmth, velvety tannins, and an invigorating line that counteracts the density. The finish is long and slightly drying – typical of a wine with real structure.
