"Calmo" red wine cuvée QbA dry
The “Calmo” is a red wine cuvée with character from Baden – dense, spicy, with a depth that one does not necessarily expect from an estate wine.
Martin Waßmer is one of the style-defining winemakers in the Markgräflerland. On loamy-calcareous soils north of Bad Krozingen, wines are created that are unusually structured and suitable for aging by Baden standards. The “Calmo” bundles what this region can do: warmth, substance and yet freshness.
In the nose, it shows plenty of spice, cigar box and cold smoke – plus red fruit: cassis, pickled cherries, a hint of black pepper. On the palate, powerful and compact, full-bodied with noticeable warmth, velvety tannins and an invigorating line that counteracts the density. The finish is long, slightly drying – typical for a wine with a real framework.
- Food: Braised lamb shoulder, venison ragout, mature cheddar or goat cheese with herb crust
- Temperature: 17–18 °C
