Weissburgunder SW Schlatter Maltesergarten
The SW Schlatter Maltesergarten white Burgundy is the flagship wine of Martin Waßmer from Bad Krozingen-Schlatt in southern Baden – one of Germany's most discerning Burgundy specialists. The abbreviation SW stands for the selection of his best vineyards: grapes from vines up to 40 years old, rooted in the unique soils of the Schlatter Maltesergarten vineyard, yielding an average of only 40 hectoliters per hectare. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand, with rigorous selection beginning right in the vineyard.
The grapes are gently pressed and fermented and aged in the finest Burgundian barriques – with subtle oak contact that enriches the wine without dominating it. The result is a Pinot Blanc that combines depth and freshness in rare harmony.
In the glass, a rich golden yellow with greenish reflections. The nose opens with Williams pear, juicy apple, and pineapple, complemented by nutty notes, vanilla, and a hint of toast. On the palate, round and balanced, with ripe, yellow-fleshed fruit, an elegant mineral texture, and a convincing, creamy finish.
Served at 8–12 °C with an alcohol content of 13.5% ABV, it has an aging potential of up to 6 years. An elegant accompaniment to asparagus, poultry, creamy pasta, and mild cheeses – Burgundian in character, rooted in Baden, and irresistibly harmonious.
