Schlatter Maltesergarten Pinot Noir "GC"

A Pinot Noir that clearly demonstrates the depth of a Grand Cru origin: complex, powerful, and yet with a silky texture.

Martin Waßmer is among the most precise red winemakers in the Markgräflerland – a southern corner of Baden where Burgundy and Alemannic wines meet. The Maltesergarten vineyard in Schlatt is one of the few sites in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district that has the potential to be classified as a Grand Cru: deep loess loam over limestone, plenty of warmth, and good night cooling for freshness.

In the glass, a dense array of aromas unfolds: roasted nuts, cold smoke, and nougat chocolate form the dark foundation, topped with dried cherry, a touch of blackberry, and a hint of cassis. On the palate, it displays power and structure, the tannins firm yet interwoven with a fine velvety texture. A lively acidity balances the extract sweetness, and the finish is long, spicy, and lingeringly profound.
