Boekenhoutskloof Syrah
Boekenhoutskloof is one of the most renowned wineries in South Africa's Franschhoek region—a winery that has been demonstrating the Cape's potential for Syrah since the 1990s. The cool, mountainous slopes of the Franschhoek Valley, nourished by Atlantic winds, impart a freshness and vibrancy to the Syrah, clearly distinguishing it from the heavier style of the northern Rhône.
In the glass, it displays dark blackberry and black cherry, underpinned by white pepper and dried violets—the typical profile of a cool Syrah. Leather and a hint of clove emerge with a little aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with present but ripe tannins and lively acidity that carries the long, spicy finish.
Drinking window now until 2028. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. At the table, it pairs well with braised lamb loin, venison burgers with rosemary, or a strong hard cheese such as aged Manchego.
