Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge Syrah

A Syrah from South Africa that shows what the Swartland and Franschhoek regions are capable of: dark fruit, earthy depth and the peppery spice typical of Syrah – all in an accessible, everyday format.

Boekenhoutskloof is among the most prestigious wineries in the Cape region. Founded in 1776, the estate in Franschhoek was revived in 1993 by Marc Kent and a small team. The Porcupine Ridge line represents the more approachable side of the estate – vinified with the same craftsmanship as the flagship wines, but designed for early drinking. The grapes are sourced from the Swartland and Coastal Regions, where dry summers and cool nights contribute structure and freshness.

In the glass, the Syrah displays a deep ruby red color. The nose offers blackberry, plum, and dried herbs, along with black pepper and a hint of porcini mushroom. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with soft tannins and lively acidity. The finish is spicy with a subtle smoky note.

Boekenhoutskloof

Boekenhoutskloof was founded around 1776 in the remotest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek Valley. The "French Corner" (Franschhoek) has preserved much of the French way of life, and thus the winemaking tradition is also rooted in French traditions. The name "Boekenhoutskloof" means "Valley of the Cape Beeches" and was popularized under this name by winemaker Marc Kent. The most well-known grape variety is Syrah, but Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon, and Viognier are also part of the portfolio.
