Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge Syrah

A Syrah from South Africa that shows what the Swartland and Franschhoek regions can do: dark fruit, earthy depth, and the peppery spice typical of Syrah – all in an accessible, everyday format.

Boekenhoutskloof is one of the most renowned wineries in the Cape region. The estate, founded in 1776 in Franschhoek, was revived in 1993 by Marc Kent and a small team. The Porcupine Ridge line is the accessible side of the house – vinified with the same craftsmanship as the flagship wines, but aimed at early drinkability. The grapes come from the Swartland and the Coastal Region, where dry summers and cool nights ensure structure and freshness.

In the glass, the Syrah shows deep ruby red. On the nose, blackberry, plum, and dried herbs, plus black pepper and a hint of porcini mushroom. On the palate, medium body, soft tannins, lively acidity. The finish is spicy with a light smoky note.

Boekenhoutskloof

Boekenhoutskloof was founded as early as 1776 in the "farthest corner" of the beautiful Franschhoek Valley. The "French Corner" (Franschhoek) has preserved much of the French way of life, and thus the wine cultivation is also based on French roots.

The name "Boekenhoutskloof" means something like "ravine of the Cape beeches" and was then also made famous under this name by winemaker Marc Kent.

The most well-known grape variety is the Syrah grape, but Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon, and Viognier are also part of the portfolio.
