Bickel-Stumpf Silvaner Muschelkalk

A Silvaner that shows what Franconia is capable of: not a fruit-bomb style, but depth, drive and that characteristic minerality that one associates with the Muschelkalk soil of the region.

Bickel-Stumpf is one of the most reliable wineries in Franconia – the estate focuses on highlighting the unique characteristics of each vineyard site, rather than producing a bland, uniform style. The limestone bedrock is typical for Franconia and gives the Silvaner its unmistakable character.

In the glass, fresh hay and a subtle floral note are revealed. On the palate, preserved pear and mirabelle plum emerge, but without any hint of sweetness – the fruit is immediately embraced by a powerful, spicy minerality. The body is firm, the acidity is vibrant, and a slight astringency gives the wine grip. The finish is long and lingering, with herbal and mineral accents that resonate long after the last sip.

  • Temperature: 10–12 °C
  • Dishes: Stuffed peppers, lentil soup with bacon, smoked trout or a spicy mountain cheese
  • Occasion: Well chilled with dinner – not an aperitif wine, but one that grows with the food.

Bickel-Stumpf

Bickel-Stumpf – a small, exquisite family winery from Franconia. Two special vineyard sites, two distinct characters: the Mönchshof in Frickenhausen, situated on barren limestone by the river; and the Rothlauf on the Thüngersheim Johannisberg, on red sandstone. The result? Mönchshof wines: full-bodied, profound, with Burgundian elegance. Rothlauf wines: delicate, straightforward, and memorable. A member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates), cultivated with respect for nature. Not a mass-produced product, but craftsmanship you can taste.
