Aster Finca El Otero Tempranillo Ribera del Duero DO, Rioja Alta

Two appellations, one signature: Aster Finca El Otero combines the know-how of La Rioja Alta with the powerful terroir of Ribera del Duero — Tempranillo on a barren high plateau, around 900 meters above sea level.

La Rioja Alta is one of the most traditional wineries in Rioja, founded in Haro in 1890. With the Aster estate, the company crossed the provincial border into the Ribera del Duero, where the Finca El Otero vineyard is cultivated as a separate site. The Tempranillo grape – often called Tinto Fino here – ripens on calcareous clay soils and benefits from the large day-night temperature fluctuations of the meseta.

In the glass, the wine shines a rich ruby red. On the nose, it opens with aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, and preserved fruits, interwoven with cinnamon and star anise. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet remarkably smooth: ripe tannins, abundant fruit, and a juicy, lingering finish without any harshness.

Serving suggestion: Best served at 16–18 °C. Pairs well with herb-crusted leg of lamb, Iberico pork roast, or aged Manchego cheese. Best enjoyed between 2024 and 2029.

La Rioja Alta

La Rioja Alta, SA – behind this name lies one of the most venerable names in Spanish winemaking. For over 130 years, people have worked here with a clear philosophy: patience is not a luxury, but the foundation for great wine. The winery is located in the heart of the Rioja Alta and has never been driven by trends. Instead, they focus on long barrel aging, hand-picked grapes, and a deep understanding of their vineyards. The result? Wines you won't forget – with red fruits, delicate spices, and a velvety warmth that lingers on the palate. Sustainability is not just a buzzword, but a lived practice: Viña Alberdi was recently awarded Sustainable Wine Product of the Year – proof that tradition and responsibility go hand in hand. Four wineries, four regions – from Rioja to the Rías Baixas. But no matter where you look: the same care, the same passion.
