Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is among the most consistently excellent estates in the Médoc – classified as a Cinquième Cru Classé in 1855, but in practice on par with many fourth and third grades. The vineyards lie on a continuous plateau in the heart of Pauillac , far from the Gironde estuary, on deep, gravelly soil that retains heat and regulates water – ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, which accounts for around 75 percent of the plantings here.

François-Xavier Borie runs the estate with a philosophy of restraint in the cellar: careful selection in the vineyard, controlled extraction, and aging in barriques without excessive use of new oak. The result is wines with deep color, a core of ripe cassis fruit, and a structure that truly unfolds after eight to ten years – revealing notes of tobacco, cedar, and a long, mineral finish.
