Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of the most consistent addresses in the Médoc – a Fifth Grand Cru Classé that justifies its rank not through marketing glamour, but through consistent quality vintage after vintage. The vineyards are located on a contiguous plateau in the heart of Pauillac, far from the Gironde, on deep gravel-clay soil that stores heat and regulates water – ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon.
François-Xavier Borie runs the estate with a philosophy that relies on minimal intervention in the vineyard and precise work in the cellar. The wines show an unmistakable signature: dark color, aromas of ripe cassis and blackberry, complemented over time by tobacco, cedarwood, and fine spice notes. The tannins are dense but never coarse – they need time to open up.
Eight to ten years of storage is not a recommendation for the impatient, but the key to what Grand-Puy-Lacoste is truly capable of.
