The winemaker simply has to know how to observe the vine to understand its needs. Since 2000, Pontet-Canet has been the first of the top Bordeaux estates to convert to biodynamic farming and has been internationally certified since 2006, though this isn't something they make a big deal of. Château Pontet-Canet lies in the heart of Pauillac , right next to Mouton Rothschild — yet the estate has been forging its own path since the 1990s. Instead of relying on cellar technology, the Tesseron family began to re-read the vineyard: row by row, season by season, with a growing conviction that the vine itself dictates the direction.

Pontet-Canet was the first of the classified Bordeaux estates to convert to biodynamic farming in 2000—internationally certified since 2006, without any marketing hype. Horses replace tractors in the vineyards, copper and sulfur replace synthetic pesticides, and the harvest is guided by the lunar calendar. This sounds like a principle, but it is above all practical: years of observation to determine what truly benefits the soil and the vines.

In the glass, the wines are dense and structured, with the typical cassis fruit and graphite notes of Pauillac—but with a vibrancy that classically vinified Médocs rarely achieve.
