Vintage 1682

The Vintage 1682 is a liquid tribute to the founding year of Château Fontarèche. Deep in the Languedoc, in the Corbières appellation, the family manages this historic estate, which is one of the oldest in the region. The vines here are rooted in sun-drenched limestone and gravel terraces, which give the grapes a natural concentration and remarkable density.

In the glass, the wine reveals a deep ruby red. The nose is clearly characterized by dark fruit – blackberry and black cherry are in the foreground, directly accompanied by typical southern French garrigue herbs such as thyme and rosemary, as well as a fine note of black pepper. On the palate, the red wine presents itself as powerful and fleshy. The present but well-integrated tannins support the full body and lead into a long-lasting, subtly spicy finish.

A classic companion for hearty country-style cuisine. Serve this southern Frenchman at a serving temperature of 16 to 18 °C. It goes excellently with braised leg of lamb with root vegetables, a hearty bean cassoulet, or aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Cantal. To break up the dense structure a little, it is worth decanting the wine for an hour before serving.
