Teliani Valley Glekhuri Kisi Qvevri

Teliani Valley Glekhuri Kisi Qvevri
Amber-colored white wine from the Qvevri – the Georgian clay pot that has served as a fermentation vessel, aging container, and cellar all in one for thousands of years. If you like orange wines, you will find a classic representative of this style here.
Teliani Valley is located in eastern Georgia, in the Kakheti wine-growing region – the country's most productive and historically significant wine region. The Kisi grape is an indigenous variety of Kakheti that is rarely grown outside of Georgia. Fermented and aged in the Qvevri, it develops a depth and tannin structure that is foreign to classic white wines.
On the nose, dried apricot, candied ginger, and a hint of beeswax. The palate follows with quince paste and orange peel, accompanied by an invigorating acidity and subtle, velvety tannins – a typical characteristic of maceration in the Qvevri. The finish is long, spicy, and slightly smoky.
- Temperature: 14–16 °C
- Food: Grilled lamb, spicy lentil dishes, mature hard cheese, or Georgian Mzadi flatbread with sheep's cheese

Teliani Valley – wine with history. In the 19th century, Mikhail Romanov, brother of the Russian Tsar, had a large wine cellar built. In the 1880s, winemaker Antoin Mossano came to Georgia from Bordeaux – and stayed for nine years. He was the first to process Georgian grape varieties using European techniques. He sent his "Teliani" wine, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, to the Tsar – and became famous. Today, Teliani Valley cultivates these traditional vineyards. Ancient Georgian grape varieties, processed using both traditional and modern methods. Georgian wine culture – at its finest.
