Stahl Hasennest Müller-Thurgau
Müller-Thurgau has an image problem—unjustly so, considering what can be achieved from a good steep-slope vineyard. Christian Stahl's Hasennest vineyard demonstrates what this grape variety is capable of when the location and craftsmanship are right.
The grapes grow in the small, extremely steep plot Tauberzeller Hasennestle in Franconia — a location that makes cultivation difficult, but brings concentration and depth to the harvested grapes.
On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of pear, passion fruit, and a hint of mango—ripe and aromatic without being overpowering. On the palate, this fruitiness combines with a fine, invigorating acidity and mineral notes reminiscent of the Franconian limestone. The finish brings peach and apricot, leaving the mouthfeel soft and rounded.
Serving suggestion: Well chilled at 8–10 °C. Pairs well with Asian cuisine with coconut milk, pan-fried pike-perch, or a light goat cheese. Also a great, uncomplicated summer drink on the patio.
