Spier Seaward Cabernet Sauvignon

An approachable South African wine from the Coastal Region – structured enough for the dinner table, fruity enough for the evening.

Spier Cellars is among the most renowned wineries in the Stellenbosch area. The Seaward line utilizes the coastal vineyards of the Coastal Region, where the influence of the Atlantic Ocean ensures cooler nights and slower ripening of the grapes.

In the glass, the Cabernet Sauvignon displays a clear ruby ​​red color. The nose offers aromas of blackberry and plum, underpinned by a subtle oak note from the 14 months of barrel aging – 80% French, 20% American oak. The American oak contributes a light vanilla note without overpowering the fruit. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with soft tannins and a pleasantly drinkable finish. John Platter rates the 2017 vintage 3.5 stars.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with grilled beef steak, a spicy lamb ragout, or mature cheddar. Drink now – long aging potential is not the goal here.
