Short Street Shiraz alcohol-free

A Shiraz that forgoes alcohol – but not character. The Short Street alcohol-free Shiraz from South Africa's Riebeek Valley demonstrates what modern dealcoholization technology can achieve.

Riebeek Valley Wine Co. is located in the Swartland, one of South Africa's most exciting wine regions: hot climate, ancient soils, and robust red wines. Short Street is the winery's non-alcoholic line – made for those who abstain from alcohol but don't want a serious red wine.

The alcohol is removed via vacuum distillation at low temperatures to preserve the volatile aromas. In the glass, red cherries, blackberry, and a hint of dark plum emerge, along with oriental spices – cinnamon, a touch of pepper – and a subtle tobacco undertone on the finish. The body is surprisingly well-rounded for a dealcoholized wine, and the finish is soft and lingering.

Serve at 16–18 °C.
Goes well with: Lamb chops with rosemary, grilled eggplant, hearty pasta with tomato sauce or a barbecue evening without alcohol.
