Schlumberger Chardonnay Große Reserve Brut Méthode Traditionnelle

A single-varietal Chardonnay as a vintage sparkling wine that brings freshness and maturity together: The Große Reserve is the top cuvée from the house of R. Schlumberger, dry in style (Brut) and classically produced via bottle fermentation according to the Méthode Traditionnelle.

Schlumberger is based in Austria and is considered one of the country's traditional sparkling wine houses. The Große Reserve shows what can be extracted from a single grape variety when maturity is given time.

On the nose, the sparkling wine feels fine and complex: salt lemon, verbena, greengage, and meadow flowers. On the palate, brioche, subtle peach, and mandarin zest are added, carried by a clear structure. The finish is long and balanced.

Serve it at 6 to 8 °C in a wine glass instead of a narrow flute, so the bouquet can unfold. It goes with oysters, scallops, asparagus risotto, antipasti, or with shavings of mature Parmesan, and is a good companion for special occasions.

The Winery

Schlumberger

Schlumberger is Austria's oldest sparkling wine cellar – founded in 1842 by Robert Schlumberger, an Alsatian cellar master who learned his craft at Ruinart in Reims and brought the Méthode Traditionnelle to Austria for the first time.

As a purveyor to the imperial and royal court and a pioneer of Austrian sparkling wine culture, the Viennese house has set standards that still apply today: base wines exclusively from Austrian contract winemakers, at least twelve months of yeast aging, artisanal riddling.

The underground cellars in the 19th district – the oldest of their kind in Austria – tell of this long history. At the Vienna Opera Ball, Schlumberger has been the secret star in the glass for decades.
