Schäfer-Fröhlich Riesling Schiefestein Schäfer Fröhlich QbA dry

Slate defines this Riesling from the first note to the long finish — stony, salty, lively. An introduction to the Schäfer-Fröhlich universe that shows what the Nahe can do on this soil.

Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich from Bockenau has been one of the top addresses for German Riesling producers for years. Tim Fröhlich cultivates the steep slopes in the Nahe side valley on weathered slate and sandstone — soils that give the Riesling its characteristic spice and tension. The Schiefergestein is the entry-level wine in the range, but stylistically it clearly follows the same path as the estate's great single-vineyard wines.

On the nose, stony and salty with Boskoop apple and a hint of citrus peel. On the palate, it shows a firm body and clear acid structure — not a soft charmer, but a Riesling with backbone. The minerality is present and direct, the finish long, salty, with a hint of tart apple.

Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Pairs with fried zander, tarte flambée with crème fraîche, or a mature goat cheese.

Schäfer-Fröhlich

VDP Member Estate

The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery originates in the picturesque Nahe Valley in Germany and boasts a long family tradition of winemaking. Since 1800, the Schäfer family has dedicated itself to cultivating grapevines and producing high-quality wines. Today, the winery is managed by Tim Fröhlich, who combines his ancestors' traditions with modern winemaking techniques. The estate stretches across the hills of the Nahe Valley and benefits from the region's unique climatic and geological conditions. The vineyards are primarily planted with Riesling and Pinot Noir grapes, which find ideal conditions here to produce wines of exceptional quality. The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery's portfolio comprises an impressive selection of wines that reflect the diversity and quality of the Nahe region. The Rieslings, in particular, are the winery's hallmark and are known for their elegance, freshness, and longevity. In addition, the winery also produces excellent Burgundy wines as well as other varieties that perfectly express the terroir and the winemaker's skill. At Schäfer-Fröhlich, quality is paramount. The winery relies on meticulous handwork in the vineyard and gentle processing of the grapes in the cellar to unlock the full potential of the wines. Winemaking is carried out using traditional methods and state-of-the-art viticultural techniques to produce wines of the highest quality and authenticity.
