Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenau FELSENECK Riesling dry GG

The Felseneck vineyard in Bockenau is one of the great Riesling sites of the Nahe Valley: weathered porphyry and slate characterize a soil that imparts a distinctive minerality to the wine. Tim Fröhlich, who runs the Schäfer-Fröhlich winery in its fifth generation, has been among Germany's most precise Riesling producers for years—his Grosses Gewächs wines from Bockenau are considered the benchmark for dry Nahe Riesling.

In the glass, the Felseneck GG displays the typical characteristics of the vineyard: white peach and citrus peel take center stage, beneath which lies a smoky, stony note derived from the weathered porphyry soil. The acidity is precise and persistent without being harsh—carrying the wine right through to the saline, lingering finish. Body and texture are dense, but never heavy.

Best served at 10–12 °C . Its drinking window easily extends to 2032, with further aging potential. At the table, it pairs well with turbot with beurre blanc, scallops, or a mature goat cheese—but a good piece of grilled sea bass with fennel also works superbly.

Schäfer-Fröhlich

The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery originates in the picturesque Nahe Valley in Germany and boasts a long family tradition of winemaking. Since 1800, the Schäfer family has dedicated itself to cultivating grapevines and producing high-quality wines. Today, the winery is managed by Tim Fröhlich, who combines his ancestors' traditions with modern winemaking techniques. The estate stretches across the hills of the Nahe Valley and benefits from the region's unique climatic and geological conditions. The vineyards are primarily planted with Riesling and Pinot Noir grapes, which find ideal conditions here to produce wines of exceptional quality. The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery's portfolio comprises an impressive selection of wines that reflect the diversity and quality of the Nahe region. The Rieslings, in particular, are the winery's hallmark and are known for their elegance, freshness, and longevity. In addition, the winery also produces excellent Burgundy wines as well as other varieties that perfectly express the terroir and the winemaker's skill. At Schäfer-Fröhlich, quality is paramount. The winery relies on meticulous handwork in the vineyard and gentle processing of the grapes in the cellar to unlock the full potential of the wines. Winemaking is carried out using traditional methods and state-of-the-art viticultural techniques to produce wines of the highest quality and authenticity.
