Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons Rupert & Rothschild Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot
Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons Rupert & Rothschild Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot
A Bordeaux blend from South Africa that combines the classic structure of a Médoc with the warmth and density of the Cape. Cabernet Sauvignon provides the framework, Merlot the fullness.
Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons is a partnership of two dynasties: the South African entrepreneurial family Rupert and the Bordeaux house Rothschild. The winery is located in the Franschhoek Valley, one of the most renowned red wine regions on the Western Cape, on granite and sandstone soils with cool evening winds from the Atlantic.
On the nose, cassis, mint, and cedar wood — a profile that clearly reminds one of the left bank of Bordeaux. On the palate, medium to full body, fine-grained tannins, and a long, spicy finish with melt. Accessible while young, but continues to develop with two to four years of cellar rest.
- Food: Rack of lamb with herb crust, beef fillet, entrecôte from the grill, or aged cheddar
