Riesling Winningen Uhlen "Blaufüsser Lay" Erste Lage

The Uhlen „Blaufüsser Lay" is one of the great dry Rieslings of the Mosel — not a light summer wine, but a substance with depth, texture, and real aging potential.

Heymann-Löwenstein has been cultivating the steep slopes around Winningen on the Lower Mosel since the 1980s. The Uhlen is one of the most complex single sites in the region — the „Blaufüsser Lay" area stands on blue slate with a high clay content, which gives the wine an earthy, almost spicy fundamental tension.

On the nose, it shows dried yellow fruit, a hint of tobacco, and a slightly vegetal note reminiscent of herbs and mustard seeds. On the palate, ripe, juicy fruit with fine acidity, a mellow tannin, and a long, slightly sweet finish with floral and herbal tones. Not a lean Mosel Riesling — rather powerful and persistent.

Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Pairs with sweetbreads, robust fish like monkfish or zander with beurre blanc, but also with aged mountain cheese.
