Riesling Winningen Uhlen "Blaufüsser Lay" Erste Lage

The Uhlen “Blaufüsser Lay” is one of the great dry Rieslings of the Mosel — not a light summer wine, but a wine with depth, texture and real aging potential.

Heymann-Löwenstein has been cultivating the steep slopes around Winningen on the Lower Moselle according to consistently organic principles since the 1980s. The Uhlen vineyard is one of the most complex single vineyards in the region—the "Blaufüsser Lay" section sits on blue slate with a high clay content, which imparts an earthy, almost spicy, underlying tension to the wine.

On the nose, it displays dried yellow fruit, a hint of tobacco, and a slightly vegetal note reminiscent of herbs and mustard seed. On the palate, ripe, juicy fruit with fine acidity, supple tannins, and a long, slightly sweet finish with floral and herbal tones. Not a lean Mosel Riesling—rather, powerful and persistent.

Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Pairs well with sweetbreads, robust fish such as monkfish or pike-perch with beurre blanc, but also with mature mountain cheese. Drinking window depending on the vintage until 2030+.
