Röttgen Riesling GG Magnum

Röttgen Riesling GG Magnum
The Röttgen is one of the great single vineyards of the Terrassenmosel – and Heymann-Löwenstein is the winery that has been giving this site its characteristic sharpness for decades. In the magnum, this Riesling matures more slowly and deeply than in the standard bottle.
Reinhard Löwenstein has been consistently managing his steep slopes at the Winninger Uhlen and in the Röttgen according to ecological principles since the 1980s. The Röttgen stands on grey Devonian slate – a soil that gives the wine that typically cool, stony tension that cannot be confused with any other site. The Großes Gewächs is spontaneously fermented and aged on the lees for a long time.
On the nose, the Riesling shows a subtle combination of apple pie, yeast aromas, and fresh slate minerality – as if a bakery were standing on a quarry. In the mouth, it is lean yet firmly structured: clear acidity, fine extract sweetness in the background, and whipped butter as textural depth. The finish is long, mineral, and fades out with subtle cake notes.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. The magnum needs some patience – those who open it now should decant it.
Recommendation: Zander fillet on leek vegetables, scallops with butter sauce, or mature mountain cheese.
