Hatzenport Kirchberg Riesling GG

Heymann-Löwenstein is one of the wineries that have shaped the reputation of the Terrassenmosel (Moselle terraces) – with vineyards that are barely accessible by tractor, and Rieslings that literally make the slate tangible. The Hatzenport Kirchberg is one of these wines.

The Kirchberg vineyard is located in the Hatzenport district on the Terrassenmosel (Moselle terraces), where Devonian blue slate stores the day's warmth and releases it to the vines at night. Reinhard and Cornelia Löwenstein have been cultivating their steep slopes since the 1980s, using spontaneous fermentation and extended lees aging—not a quick-fix winemaking approach, but a philosophy that allows the terroir time to express itself.

In the glass: pale straw yellow with green reflections. The nose reveals smoke, citrus peel, and wildflowers, beneath which lies a subtle salinity reminiscent of wet slate. On the palate, firm, vibrant acidity and medium body—not an opulent wine, but a precise one. The finish is long and mineral, with a hint of white peach.

Serving temperature: 10–12 °C . Drinking window: now until 2033. Pairs well with trout poached in court bouillon, grilled sea bass with herbs, or a mature goat cheese from the Loire.
