Hatzenport Kirchberg Riesling GG

Heymann-Löwenstein is one of the wineries that has shaped the reputation of the Terrassenmosel — with sites that hardly any tractor can reach, and Rieslings that make slate literally tasteable. The Hatzenport Kirchberg is one of these wines.

The Kirchberg is located in the Hatzenport district on the Terrassenmosel, where Devonian blue slate stores the day's heat and releases it to the vines at night. Reinhard and Cornelia Löwenstein have been farming their steep slopes since the 1980s, fermenting spontaneously, and relying on long lees aging — not fast winemaking, but a philosophy that gives the site time to reveal itself.

In the glass: light straw yellow with green reflections. The nose shows smoke, citrus zest, and meadow flowers, underneath a fine saltiness reminiscent of wet slate. On the palate, taut, lively acidity, medium body — not an opulent wine, but a precise one. The finish is long, mineral, with a hint of white peach.

Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs well with trout blue, grilled sea bass with herbs, or a mature goat cheese from the Loire.
