Riesling Stolzenberg GG

Riesling Stolzenberg GG
The Stolzenberg is not a site that needs explaining — it explains itself. Hatzenport's proudest vineyard, distinctly steep, deeply rooted in the Devonian slate of the Terrassenmosel.
Heymann-Löwenstein cultivates two plots here on just 0.6 hectares. The vines stand on gray-brown, platy sandy slate of the Nellenköpfchen layers — a soil that stores heat, releases water quickly, and imparts an unmistakable minerality to the wine. Slopes of up to 150% mean exclusively hand-picking. The vines, over 40 years old, dig deep into the rock; the yield remains low, the concentration high. VDP.GROSSE LAGE — the highest classification of German viticulture.
Fermentation is carried out exclusively with wild yeasts in wooden barrels, without enzymes, without fining agents. The wine matures on the lees until summer — this gives it texture and that oxidative depth that distinguishes Mosel Rieslings of this origin from everything else. In the glass, it shows aromas of yellow stone fruit, citrus zest, and wet slate, plus a taut, cool acidity and a long, salty-mineral finish.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs with zander fillet on leek vegetables, scallops with butter sauce, or aged Comté.
