Riesling Schlossböckelheim Kupfergrube GG dry
The Kupfergrube vineyard in Schlossböckelheim is one of the great sites of the Nahe region — and Schäfer-Fröhlich consistently extracts from this porphyry soil what has made it famous: Riesling with drive, depth and a long curve.
Tim Fröhlich manages the vineyard in Bockenau according to biodynamic principles. The Kupfergrube vineyard, named after the former copper mining operations, yields wines of unusual tension thanks to its volcanic weathered soil – taut, mineral, with the potential for many years in the cellar.
In the glass, a slight reduction is initially apparent—a typical sign of a young, tightly structured GG shortly after bottling. Behind this, bright yellow fruit, herbs, and delicate floral aromas unfold. On the palate, it is juicy yet precise: lively acidity, a hint of sweet fruit depth, yeasty and floral nuances, and plenty of bright minerality. The finish is firm and long.
Recommendation: Decant now or wait 2–4 years — then it will fully open up. Drinking window until 2032+. Pairs well with pike-perch on beurre blanc, white asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or aged mountain cheese. Serving temperature: 10–12 °C.
